KURTZ Shuttle Technology

Processes which require inserts to be put in the mould prior to the actual moulding process, can be facilitated by our especially developed Shuttle technology which has been used at Kurtz already for decades.

Shuttle machines are available for the processing of EPS and in HP version (HP = high pressure) for EPP.

In Shuttle machines the movable shuttle steam chamber replaces the steam chamber which is usually fixed in standard shape moulding machines. The shuttle steam chamber can move straight out of the machine and is available in two different types:

Type 1: e.g. K813S HP + K1014S HP

K1014S HP

The shuttle steam chamber moves out of the machine. The inserts are positioned directly in the mould before the moulding process starts. The shuttle steam chamber moves back to its original position and the moulding process can start. The finished mouldings can be demoulded from the shuttle side or from the moving side.

Type 2: e.g. K14.512S

During the moulding process the inserts are positioned on an inserting frame fixed on the shuttle steam chamber which moves out of the machine for demoulding. At the same time, the inserting frame is inside the machine and the inserts are passed automatically to the mould fixed on the movable steam chamber. Due to the simultaneous insertion and demoulding of the products of the previous cycle, the cycle time can be reduced considerably.

Both types can also be used as standard shape moulding machines by switching off the shuttle movement on the operation terminal.

Which of the two versions is most suitable for your product depends highly on the kind and tolerances of inserts you use.

We are looking forward to advise you!
